London – March 24, 2025
In a moment of pride for Pakistan, the country’s national flag was hoisted at the historic Westminster Abbey in London.
This special honour was bestowed upon Pakistan as a member of the Commonwealth in recognition of its National Day celebrations. 23rd March, known as Pakistan Day or ‘Yaum-e-Pakistan’ is a national holiday which has a two fold significance. It is the day the Lahore Resolution was passed in 1940, which stated the aims of a separate nation for Muslims living under British Rule at the time of the Raj and also it commemorates 23rd March 1956 when the first constitution of Pakistan was adopted.
To mark the occasion, a special prayer service was held at Westminster Abbey, attended by distinguished guests, including Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK, Dr. Mohammad Faisal, who participated as the guest of honour.
Officials from the Pakistan High Commission in London, along with their families and other attendees, were also present at the ceremony.
Prayers were offered for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan and its people, while the service also featured a traditional Evensong performance.
